How Player Who Rejected Ghana Invitation to Play in AFCON set for 3-Match Ban

African Cup of Nations (AFCON) has begun in earnest and the opening match saw the hosting nation, Ivory Coast beating Guinea-Bissau on a 2-0 scoreline.

Different players called by their respective national teams have apparently been now in their camps and looking at the fact that some players were rejecting the invitations of their countries, it is saddening because this is belittling African football as a whole.

However, according to Sky Sports News, there is a player, Abdul Fatawu invited by the Ghanaian National Team but who rejected the invitation as he didn’t want to lose his place at his club, Leicester.

But, in the recent match of the club, it is unfortunate how this player has been handed three-match ban following a red card booked on him for a serious foul in the match against Coventry City.

He will be back playing for his club on February 10 while AFCON will finish on February 11.

Many people have been having discussions about this on how he should have honoured the invitation of his country and could even have the opportunity to show the world his potential more.
